Nice Hooter!!!

Found this Great Grey Owl perched on a small Pine Tree near Ootsa Lake.  It was over 2 feet tall!!

Hooter in the Bush

This photo is a bit fuzzy as I only had seconds to take the shot…too bad nature couldn’t stand still a bit longer!!

Young Bald Eagle feeding on a Salmon in Prince Rupert

We were visiting Dave and Robyn Toffolo who were in the BC Mixed Curling Provincials in Prince Rupert and we all went for a walk at the harbour between games and found this yound Bald Eagle feeding on a Salmon.

Eagle on the shore

Tough to get a good shot as the sun was shining towards me…remnants of the Salmon are within the talons!!

Not sure what this guy was thinking…(near Bell II)

Brad and I were heading home along Hwy 37 from the Cassiar area after completing a contract near the Yukon border.  We passed this guy eating some grass in the ditch.  We stopped and backed up a bit and I jumped out and took a few pics.

Munching some lunch on the side of the Highway

I was behind the truck, and with my telephoto lens was able to zoom in a bit on this guy.  But…

Kind of getting a little TOO curious

…he started to walk towards me.  Can you see the grass in his mouth!!

Of course I’m starting to back peddle a bit and head towards the truck while still taking pictures.

Getting a little too close for comfort!!

NOW I am in the truck but leaning out the window…and Brad was ready to jet away in case it got near my window.

Finally, one of my favorite pictures where i was wondering what he was thinking…and I’m guessing he might have been thinking the same thing.

Ok…what are you thinking???

Wasps in the Backyard

Was trimming the tree with my little helper Kaylee and couldn’t reach the back side of the Mountain Ash tree.   I put the extension ladder up against the tree and when i went up the ladder i heard a BUZZ and then more BUZZES and then i had some pain in my shoulder…Got Stung!!  With Kaylee directly below me, i jumped off the ladder, scooped her up in my arms and ran in the back door on the deck.  The nest is larger than a basketball.

Wasps all over the place!!!

Entering and exiting the entrance hole at a fast pace!!

Have not really seen this type before…usually just yellow jackets or hornets…these ones have a few white stripes near the stinger!!

Unfortunately i did not get anymore pictures of the nest as I spray bombed it with a wasp killer…worked pretty well.  I trimmed the branches it was nestled in and put in a clear plastic bag.  Tied it up and then did some shaking and poking and prodding and about 50 live ones came out and were buzzing all over the place in the bag…they were ANGRY!!  Poked a little hole in the bag and squirted the rest of the spray in the bag finishing them off!!
